Miloli‘i Magic
Aloha,Here are some tips, directions, and maps to The Cottage with a View or The Jewel. If you are fly into the Kona airport, turn right onto Highway 11 (Hawaii Belt Road) to head south (the signs will say Volcano). It is best to pick up some food and drinks after you have left the Kailua-Kona area (unless you plan on stopping at Costco). You will travel from sea level to 1000 feet. There is a store right after the 110 mile marker (these markers tell you how many miles you are from Hilo and are on the left side headed south). The store is on the left and is named Choice Mart. The turn off to Milolii is between mile markers #89 and #88 and it is a right hand turn. As you come down the hill, please use a low gear and yield to uphill traffic as it is a narrow road in lots of places. If you are arriving after dark it is best to bring a small torch (flashlight) as it is very dark with no street lights. Below is a detailed map to follow after you have traveled after you have traveled a little under 3 miles from the main highway (check you odometer at the highway and Milolii Road turnoff). After 2.8 miles you will see a house on the left (almost on the road) and a green house straight ahead (it’s difficult to see in the dark). Keep on the main road through a backwards "S" curve and then turn right on Ewalu Ave where you will see a rock entry with the sign that you see pictured to the right. The road is steep and take the first left on Aoao Avenue. You are now on unapproved roads so please go slow. The street blocks are only three or four small lots wide. The rental homes are on the corner of the fourth street called Eha Avenue. The corner home is "Cottage with a View" and "The Jewel" is located right next door to the right. At night they both have solar lights in the yard. Our home is across from "The Jewel" and it is painted light teal green. We need to know about when you are going to arrive (morning, afternoon, or night). If it is after dark, we will have the light on for you. If you get into Kailua-Kona at noon and then pick up your rental car, go to store, it will be after 4PM before you arrive in Milolii. Note that traffic in Kailua-Kone on weekdays between 3-6PM can be very heavy. Feel free to call if you have any questions or need additional information. One pair of pants, shorts, tee-shirts and swim suits are all you’ll need. We have sweatshirts and some jackets for Mauna Kea and Volcano trips. If you are going to Mauna Kea (14,000' and stars) a jeep is a good rental as tours start at $200 per person. We have beach towels and mats available for your use. Guests have also left some snorkeling gear and we have gear bags. We also have coolers available for day trips around the Island. If you are staying a week or more, Costco is only minutes from the airport. Pack a superlight cold bag as Milolii is at least an hour from Costco. Please call or email one week before you come with your arrival time (airlines tend to change times often). Call again at the Kona Airport so we know you’re on Island.
